Arranger's Notes

THIS RECORDING CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF LOFTJAZZ

LoftJazz is an idea, it is a concept. It is an experiment in contemporary jazz improvisation that thrives upon the contemporaneous communication amongst a trio of musicians - electric guitarist, acoustic bassist and drummer - playing my idiosyncratic arrangements of contemporary jazz (to be) standards. In this instance, the trio had neither rehearsed nor ever played together beforehand. The essence of LoftJazz is to enjoy the journey of improvisation, accepting the imperfections of live recording which make the golden moments - of which there are many - a rich, rewarding and shared artistic experience.

This CD was recorded live; no enhancments were made to the original recording.

COMMENT ON THE TITLE THE LUNATIC FRINGE:

A friend once commented on our improvisations: "Bill, you can take me as far outas you like, but you have got to bring me back!" That space between out and back is - to me - the Lunatic Fringe.
